Welcome to June, Fourth Graders!

Can you believe we’re in the last month of school now? The school closure and social distancing have made the weeks go by very quickly for some of us. We’ll work to finish and share projects this week and next. Here is your schedule for today.

News and Reminders:

  • Whole-class Google Meet this afternoon at 2:00. Bring some paper and something you can draw with.
  • We’ll start sharing inventions and passion projects during Thursday’s Meet.

Happy Friday, Fourth Graders!

We’re getting very close to completing two projects: your teaching book and your invention or passion project. We’ll talk about how to share them during Monday’s whole-class Meet.

Here is today’s schedule. We have another video read-aloud of A Wrinkle in Time, and are also very close to finishing the book. Can you believe we’re finishing up so many things at the same time? It’s a sign that we’re getting close to the end of the school year!

I hope you have a pleasant weekend. See you on Monday!

Hi there Fourth Graders,

This afternoon we will split into two smaller groups for Google Meets again at 2:00 and 2:25. You will be in the same group as you were last week. You might decide to wear a hat to our Meet today–any hat, so long as we can see your face (this is just for fun).

Here is today’s schedule. I’ll be checking in with you today about how your teaching books, inventions, and passion projects are coming along.

See you soon!

Howdy, Fourth Grade Spelunkers!

We’re off on another virtual field trip today, this time to Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico. We will go spelunking in these amazing caves. Spelunking means to explore a cave, especially as a hobby. Do you remember what region New Mexico is in?

Here is today’s schedule. It includes the link for your virtual field trip. I hope your work goes well today!

Reminder:

  • Google Meets in 2 small groups tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 and 2:25

Welcome back, Fourth Graders!

I hope you enjoyed the beautiful weather and the long weekend. My family and I spent a lot of time working in the garden and playing outside. Here is a drawing of our house that’s in our driveway right now.

Here is today’s schedule. We’re starting to get into the “home stretch” of the school year, with only 3 weeks left. There’s still time to start an invention or a passion project this week and finish before we share them.

Reminders:

  • Office hours on Google Meet this afternoon between 1:30-2:30. Come with questions!
  • We will have Meets in 2 smaller groups again on Thursday afternoon at 2:00 and 2:25.

TGIF Fourth Graders!

Here is today’s schedule. We’re continuing work on the first draft of your teaching book, and your invention. There’s also a new video read-aloud posted.

This picture is of my cats, Pippin and Baxter, who are brothers and indoor cats. If you’d like to introduce a pet(s) on the blog with one photo and a sentence or two, email the photo and sentence to me. I’ll start posting them in our Morning Messages.

News and Reminders:

  • Monday is Memorial Day; no school!
  • Office hours from 1:30-2:30 on Tuesday afternoon

Bonjour, Fourth Graders,

Here is today’s schedule. You’ll have a chance to read a short e-book about inventions. There are e-books in Google Classroom that you can print, or you can login to EPIC! and choose one of the invention books I’ve assigned there.

An important reminder: Our Meet this afternoon will be split in two smaller groups. Group A will meet from 2:00-2:20, and Group B will meet from 2:25-2:45. Your parents have received an email telling which group you’re in, and I’ve grouped you with friends and classmates who I think you’ll enjoy seeing.

You’ll join the Meet by logging into the main page of Google Classroom a few minutes before our start time. You’ll see a post there that includes a link to the Meet.

I look forward to seeing you this afternoon!

Welcome to Wednesday, Fourth Graders,

Here is today’s schedule. It includes a virtual field trip to the Monterey Bay Aquarium in California. They have live webcams, including one of sea otters. You can watch them feed the animals live at 2:00 and 4:30pm.

We’re going to try something new for tomorrow’s Meet. Instead of meeting as a whole class, we’ll meet in two smaller groups. Group A will meet from 2:00-2:20 and Group B will meet from 2:25-2:45. We’ll return to a whole-class Meet on Monday, and you can tell me how being in a smaller group worked for you.

Check Google Classroom for an announcement of which group you’re in, and how to join you group’s Meet.

See you tomorrow!

Ahoy ahoy, Fourth Grade Inventors!

It was great to see many of you yesterday at our Google Meet. If you missed yesterday’s Meet, we watched and discussed a BrainPop video about inventions. I’ve shared the link in Google Classroom with folks who were absent.

Here is today’s schedule. Some of you may be ready to start following the invention plan that you wrote. It’s exciting to start the process of actually gathering materials and designing or building a prototype.

If you need help with this or any of your work, this afternoon you can stop by Google Meet between 1:30-2:20 to chat with me. I’ll do my best to help you!
