Happy May Day, Fourth Graders!

If we were at school today, we might have the Morris Dancers come to dance with us. It’s also Friday, which means we would have PE at school. Try to find a way to get some exercise today. You might dance in your own way for May Day, or choose some activities from Coach Sadie’s blog.

For Writing today, you’ll choose a poem you’ve drafted this month that you particularly like. Then you’ll work to revise it with a checklist. This is the first step towards publishing. You can share your revised poem with me in Google Classroom or via email. I’m glad to help!

I hope you have a restful weekend!

Welcome to Wednesday, Fourth Graders!

Would you wonder what it’s called when poets use the same letter or sound at the beginning of each word? Hint: look back at Monday’s activities.

Do any of you recognize this painting? We have a poster of it in our classroom, and it’s also from our virtual field trip to the Metropolitan Museum of Art yesterday. It’s called “View of Toledo” by an artist called El Greco. He painted it in Spain around 1599-1600. I first saw this painting in a book when I was in fourth grade, and I’ve always liked it.

If we were at school today, you would have PE with Coach Sadie. Check out her blog today to find some ways to get your body moving at home.

Reminders:

  • Google Meet TOMORROW at 2:00pm.
  • We’ll continue our virtual field trip to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York today.

There’s a new read-aloud video of A Wrinkle in Time in Classroom today. We’ll start paying more attention to the setting of the story–when and where it happens.

Today you’ll also have a virtual field trip to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. I hope you enjoy starting to explore this ENORMOUS museum online.

Happy Friday, Fourth Graders!

I hope your week of remote learning has gone well so far. I know it probably looks different in each of your homes. By now I imagine that you have new routines and patterns at home. I still post the morning message to be published each morning at 8:30 because I imagine you rushing down the hall to come into our classroom at that time.

Today your writing assignment is to write me a letter or email. You can tell me anything you like, and I promise to write back. The assignment includes my mailing address. My email address is baker[at]leverettschool.org, or you can submit it through Google Classroom.

I miss you all, and look forward to hearing from you! I hope you find some fun this weekend!

Konichiwa Fourth Graders,

My backyard is putting on its fanciest party clothes these days. It’s wearing flowers in many colors and playing beautiful birdsongs.

You might be thinking, “what?!” I just described my backyard as a poet, using something called personification. It’s what poets do when they write about animals and objects as if they were humans. You’ll learn more about it in today’s writing activity.

This afternoon we have a Google Meet at 2:00. Here are topics we’ll chat about:

  • Check-in: how are you doing?
  • Birthday circles for Ari and Zeb
  • Questions about the school closure and anything else

See you soon!

Today is also a day with some big news–that schools in Massachusetts will stay closed for the rest of the school year. Many other states have already made this decision. We’ll talk more about it during our next Google Meet, tomorrow afternoon at 2:00.

I look forward to seeing you tomorrow! Below are your printable activities for today. If you login to Google Classroom, you’ll find these as well as some online-only activities.
